Black River Falls Inmate Enters Plea for 2012 Escape

-A Black River Falls inmate charged with escaping from the Black River Falls Correctional Institution in July of 2012 entered a plea in Jackson County Court on Monday.The incident started in mid-July of 2012, when James Newman, and another inmate, James Misleveck, simply walked out the front door of the prison. During the escape, the two suspects stole a shotgun, carjacked a woman and took her hostage briefly and stole another vehicle before losing authorities in Tomah. They ended up in Florida where they beat up a store clerk and led authorities on a high speed chase before being caught and brought back to Wisconsin.
Newman was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, escape criminal arrest, kidnapping and theft of moveable property. Four other charges were dismissed, but read in. Newman has a sentencing date set for December. Misleveck was sentenced to a total of 35 years in prison and 21 years of extended supervision.
