Owen City Council Approves Bid for Project

-The Owen City Council approved a bid for their Lift Station #1 project at their meeting last week.A total of 5 contractor bids were received and MSA’s recommendation was to award the bid to August Winter & Sons, Inc. from Appleton for a total of $854,300. The bid came in approximately $150,000 higher than anticipated, but the council did approve it. The council also approved the Municipal Assessor’s Contract with Bowmar Appraisals for 2017 for $6,950 and 2018 for $7,050. They approved the Municipal Auditor’s Contract with Clifton Larson Allen for 2017 for $23,400. The council also heard an update on the budgets. A copy of the YTD 2016 Budget and a list of progress for the 2017 Budget was presented with some updates approved.
The council also approved funds for the House of Friends’ after school program. Sandy Deacon-HOF President and Elizabeth Bourdan-Assistant Director reported the House of Friends after school program is off to a good start this year with approximately 20 children attending on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Kids are served a healthy snack, have homework time and then fun time. The rent charge from the Friends of the Old School was increased to $65/day. The council approved $3,000 to the House of Friends after school program.
