Eat Right, Be Fit Coalition Continues to Move Forward

-The Clark County Eat Right, Be Fit Coalition is continuing to move forward in making the county and its communities healthier.The coalition is already moving into year two of the grant they received to put the coalition together. They’ve already accomplished a lot within that time including expanding the back pack program to more school districts in the county. They’re also working on a healthy recipes display at various food pantries to show people healthier way to eat and cook their food. The Clark County Area Food Pantry and Resource Center also took part in a Cans for a Cause drive, which brought in 700 cans of food. The area Farmers Markets are doing well with high turnout at most markets.
Moving forward there are several areas the coalition will continue with to meet their goals. They will ensure the long term sustainability of the coalition and they’ll also increase the number of schools that implement best practiced obesity prevention programs and policies. This area includes things like joint use agreements for area district’s gym and fitness centers and the back pack program. They’ll also increase the number of worksites and healthcare centers that implement best practiced obesity prevention programs and policies. The final item is to use more community outreach to make the county and its communities healthier.
