Senator Ron Johnson Talks Re-Election, Part 1
Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 -- 1:30 PM
-Senator Ron Johnson’s campaign reached out to me last week and I spoke with the Senator about his re-election this November.First, Senator Johnson explained why people should vote for him over his opponent Russ Feingold.
"I think the choice is pretty clear. It really couldn't be a bigger contrast. From my stand point, I'm a citizen legislator. Senator Feingold is a career politician. He's had 34 years in politics and, truthfully, he has very little to show for it. He's got one very high profile failure, campaign finance reform. It's pretty well violating the very principals of what he tried to pass."
"In that same 34 years period, I not only helped start, build and grow a very successful Wisconsin manufacturing business, that exports products to 20-25 different countries around the world, helping provide jobs to hundreds of Wisconsinites. But, in my very short period of time as United State Senator, very unusually I became chairman of a full standing committee of the United States Senate, the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. And I'm using my business background, the approach I used in business, trying to find areas of agreement. That's how you actually accomplish things in business. You try and find mutually beneficial projects. You want to sell something somebody wants to buy. So, using that same kind of outsider perspective and approach, by finding areas of agreement to unify us, as a committee and as a senate and, honestly, as Americans, we passed 83 pieces of legislation on my committee. 28 have now been signed into law. They're not the kind of pieces of legislation that grow government, take away your freedoms or increase your taxes. They identify problems with government and then in bipartisan fashion, they fix them. They make government a little more efficient, a little more effective and a little more accountable."
Coming up on Thursday, Senator Johnson will talk about the issues he plans to tackle of he’s re-elected.
