Sunday, October 9th, 2016 -- 10:10 AM
Department of Natural Resources officials have decided which parcels they want to sell to finish satisfying a mandate to put 10,000 acres on the block. The Associated Press reports that DNR officials announced Thursday they want to put 93 parcels totaling about 3,559 acres up for sale. About 1,600 acres would be offered to local governments, about 800 acres would be offered to adjoining landowners and about 1,130 acres would be offered to the public through a bidding process. The DNR's board will take up the recommendations on Oct. 26.
The 2013-15 state budget directed the DNR to sell 10,000 acres by mid-2017 to help pay down debt in the agency's land stewardship program. The board approved putting about 1,400 acres up for sale in 2014 and about 5,700 acres up for sale last year.
