Thorp Alumni Shows High School Students Senior Design Project
Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 -- 8:06 AM
Thorp High School Alumni Ryan Thidemann stopped by one of Mr. Goettl's tech classes to show them the rough draft of his Senior Design project and answer students' questions about pursuing a degree in engineering.
Ryan is graduating from UW-Platteville in a few weeks with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. As part of their Senior Design class, Ryan and his 3 teammates designed an adaptive cart for a disabled child that will allow her to learn how to master a wheelchair joystick before moving to a larger electric wheelchair.
The Razor dune buggy provided by the family was stripped down to the frame and painted her favorite color, donated electric wheelchair parts were fabricated to the cart, and components were designed and printed using a 3D printer. Mr. Goettl and his students, Mr. Foster, Miss Palmer, and Mrs. Penterman had fun taking the cart for a spin.
