Officials with Several Wisconsin Departments Assessing Flood Damage in Clark County this Week

Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 -- 10:12 AM

-This week officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Wisconsin Emergency Management and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will begin meeting with local officials to view flood damage which occurred September 21-22.

They’ll be viewing the damage in the counties of Adams, Chippewa, Clark, Columbia, Crawford, Eau Claire, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Richland, Trempealeau and Vernon. During the Preliminary Damage Assessment, FEMA officials will inspect public infrastructure to determine the cost of the damage. The PDA does not include damage to individual or business properties. Local officials have estimated in excess of $14 million in debris clearance, emergency protective measures, and damage to roads and other public infrastructure. Information gathered will be provided to Governor Scott Walker to help determine if the state will request a federal disaster declaration. It is the first step in the process of potentially requesting federal disaster assistance.

Several teams will begin the preliminary damage assessment on Wednesday, October 5th. They’ll be here in Clark County that day and are expected to be here Wednesday and Thursday. They’ll start their day at the courthouse.
