-A woman involved in crash that killed her two children was sentenced for the accident in Clark County Court on Friday. On April 2nd, two children died after the vehicle they were riding in left the roadway and struck a tree on Granton Road by Pray Avenue in the Township of Grant. An investigation indicated a Chevy minivan was traveling east on Granton Road when the driver, Aurelia Perez-Amador, lost control on a patch of mixed snow, slush and ice. The van then entered the north ditch and tipped onto its passenger side. The top of the van then struck a large tree collapsing the passenger compartment. Perez was taken to the hospital by helicopter for her injuries but the other occupants, her two children, a 3 yr. old girl and a 5 yr. old girl, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was wearing her seatbelt and the two children were not restrained.
Perez was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, three counts of neglecting a child. A charge of knowingly operating without a valid license causing death was dismissed and read in. She was sentenced to 2 years’ probation and she owes the courts $528.
