-The Memorial Medical Center Foundation, with funds received from a grant from the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation, recently presented the Mental Health Task Force of Clark County with a donation to help fund the purchase of literature on suicide prevention.Specifically, the funds will be used in part to pay for QPR training booklets. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer and is a tool that can help save a life from suicide. Just as people are trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver to help save lives, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. The Mental Health Task Force has been working in educating and training individuals in Clark County on QPR.
Focus has been on educating medical providers, EMS workers, clergy, teachers and other professionals that may encounter a suicidal person. It is the goal of the task force to train as many people as possible to help reduce the suicide rate in Clark County.
