Possible Cougar Sightings in Marshfield
Friday, September 30th, 2016 -- 8:03 AM
(Mike Warren, WDLB) -The Marshfield Police Department is looking into two separate cougar sightings.According to the department’s Facebook page, a Marshfield resident saw what they thought was a cougar near their house on West 11th Street near some woods by the U-W Marshfield-Wood County campus. A Marshfield Ordinance Officer confirmed that brief sighting upon his arrival, to see the cougar head into the woods and seemingly disappear.
Another sighting was reported around 7:30 last night, near 7th and Chestnut, not far from Columbus High School, also on the city’s west side. That sighting has not been confirmed. Police are urging residents to take caution if heading outside. Ensure your garage is closed and do not leave pets outdoors without supervision. Research indicates that cougar attacks on humans are rare unless cornered or threatened. If sighted, please report where, when, and direction of travel to the Marshfield Police Department, at 715-387-4394. And the police advise: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO APPROACH OR CAPTURE THIS ANIMAL.
