Greenwood School Board's Annual Meeting

-The Greenwood School Board and a small audience approved the tax levy for the next school year at the district’s Annual Meeting on Monday.

A proposed tax levy of $2,242,683 for the General Fund was approved as was a tax levy of $10,000 for the 2016-17 school year. The proposed levy translates into a projected mill rate of $10.82 per $1,000 of property value. The district presented a preliminary total budget of $5,641,188 for the current school year. On October 15th, the district will receive the final budget numbers from the state.

In addition to the budget, audience members received updates on district enrollment numbers, a review of the 2015-16 school year highlighting the successful passage of the 5-year referendum, complete review and revision of the School Board Policy manual to be completed in early 2017, establishment of a curriculum review process with K-12 Math currently under review and establishment of a Fund 46 Long-Range Capital Trust Fund to address future maintenance needs.

They also heard about the summer improvement and maintenance projects including the replacement of the west wing roof, the purchase of a new phone system, upgrades in the Technology Education Department and equipment replacement in the Art and FACE departments. The district’s Goals for 2016-17 include continuing to focus on closing achievement gaps and reducing “D’s” and “F’s”, improving communication across the district, study the Trimester schedule model and recruit and retain quality staff. Next year’s annual meeting is scheduled for 7:30pm on Monday, September 25th.
