(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says Governor Scott Walker should consider shifting more employees to regulate factory farms when he puts together his next state budget.According to the Associated Press, the agency's request includes a plan to shift four positions to regulating the state's larger farms. The factory farm program has grown from 40 operations in 1995 to 285 this year.
The agency says the four new workers would help ensure adequate staffing to review permit applications and reissuances and monitor compliance. Walker's administration released state agencies' 2017-19 budget requests last week.
