Wisconsin Potato Production Report

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin potato production totaled 27.8 million hundredweight last year, up six percent from 2014 production levels.

The latest USDA Potato Summary shows that state growers planted 63,000 acres of spuds, down 2,000 acres from the year prior. Harvested acres in 2015 were reported at 62,500, down 1,500 acres from 2014. But average yield per acre was up from 410 cwt. in the previous year to 445 cwt. in 2015.

Meanwhile, prices were off a little last year at $9.70 cwt., down by 70-cents from the previous year. Total value of production of the Wisconsin potato crop was down from $272.9 million in 2014 to $269.8 million in 2015.
