NEW INFO: Flooding Situation in Clark County

-Damage assessment continues in Clark County after the heavy rains and flooding tore through the area.

According to the Clark County Emergency Management Department, there are approximately 70 locations where there is either water over the roadway or some type of damage and/or closures. Crews are working to make repairs where possible. Some areas are still underwater so repairs and assessment are not yet possible. Wednesday night there were 2 incidents where vehicles had become disabled on roadways where the roadway was flooded. In one incident a person had to be rescued by emergency crews. All parties involved in these incidents are safe and well. These incidents serve as a reminder that when you encounter a flooded roadway it is absolutely necessary to turn around a find an alternate route.

In cooperation with the American Red Cross clean up kits will be made available through the Clark County Health Department. These kits are intended for residents who have experienced flooding in their residences. Kits can be obtained by contacting the Clark County Health Department at 715-743-5112. It is also important for residents who have private wells that may have been flooded to have them tested. Test kits can be obtained from the Clark County Health Department by calling 715-743-5112. Those interested in a test kit will need to pick it up at the Health Department. Clark County residents who may have damages to their homes in Clark County are asked to report those damages to the American Red Cross Disaster Services at 877-618-6628. If residents in Clark County are unable to leave their homes because of high water and need assistance they should report that to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office at 715-743-3157.

Governor Scott Walker has declared a State of Emergency for Clark County as well as 12 other counties including Buffalo, Chippewa, Columbia, Crawford, Eau Claire, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Richland, Sauk, Trempealeau, and Vernon. The State of Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center was activated and state officials are working to assist counties in their response and recovery efforts. Executive Order #215, which declares the State of Emergency, helps local governments pay for the unreimbursed costs of damage and cleanup to public infrastructure.
