-The Granton City Council heard an update on the city’s phosphorous compliance.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the 4th year phosphorous compliance is due December 31st of this year. The village needs to decide by October which of the compliance options to pursue. A multi charge variance will extend the compliance time for 4 terms or approximately 16 years. An economic variance must be completed to ensure the city qualifies. The variance is based on the hardship the village will incur, which is population vs project cost. MSA’s cost to for the Economic and Multi-Charge variance is 15,000 and other options include tree plantation, building a plant, hauling the waste away, etc. The board will need to make a decision by the October board meeting.
The council also heard an update on Fall Fest. The 100 year celebration was a success. A council member inquired whether or not the Fall Fest Committee sends out thank you notes to those who made the day extra special. Randy Jansen was the raffle winner for the log cabin and Tammy Stargardt was the raffle winner for the coon skin cap. Although the village did not sell as many raffle tickets as they had hoped, the village did sell a total of 792 tickets and collected $17,250. The money for the sidewalk restoration program is $7250.
