The Tiptons at the CART Center in Neillsville Next Saturday

-THE TIPTONS are an internationally renowned all-female saxophone quartet with drums based in New York, Seattle, and Eau Claire, co-founded by Amy Denio in 1988 and they're going to be at the CART Center in Neillsville on Saturday, September 24th.Their name honors Billy Tipton, a woman saxophonist posing as a man in the 20thC. Their ‘world soul’ genre-busting sound ranges from micro-Big Band to Gospel, Bluegrass to Balkan, whimsical Jazz to Nocturnal Funk to Free. The Tiptons’ solid instrumental and vocal talent is forged from 20 years of collaboration, creating some of the freshest sounds on the jazz/world/pop music scene today. Their dynamic, playful performances feature high-energy interaction between members and with the public.

Along with releasing 11 CDs, they have also created and self-produced multi-media works: ‘Shop of Wild Dreams’ premiered in 2006 at ConWorks, Seattle; ‘MYTHUNDERSTANDINGS’ premiered in 2013/2015 at The Chapel Performance Center, Seattle. These beautiful pieces feature live music, storytelling, original videography, live painting, and playback of oral histories. In 1992 they created a Bus Horn Quartet for sax quartet and 3 buses. Each Tipton contributes a potent and unique voice in the band.
