Owen Teenager Dies in Farming Accident

-A rural Owen teenager has died as a result of a farm accident that occurred yesterday in the town of Hixon.The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a 16-year-old in a manure tank just before 10am, on Wednesday. An initial investigation indicates that a teenager was spreading manure in a field when he stopped the tractor he was operating after emptying the manure tank he was pulling.
The teenager turned off the tractor’s PTO and entered the empty manure tank. He was found unconscious in the tank after being inside for an unknown amount of time. It’s believed he entered the tank for maintenance issues. The teenager was removed from the tank by members of the Owen-Withee-Curtiss Fire Department. He was taken to the St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The name of the teenager is currently being withheld pending notification of the family.
