Officials at Tomah VA Plan to Address Concerns

Tuesday, September 13th, 2016 -- 8:01 AM

(AP) -Officials at the troubled Tomah VA plan to address U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson's concerns about the apparent suicide of a Wisconsin veteran.

Johnson sent a letter last week to Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald, asking for all documents about 29-year-old Brian Rossell of Wausau. Rossell's body was found Thursday in Lake Wausau after he went missing earlier in the week. Rossell's mother says her son, a U.S. Army veteran, had sought help from the Tomah VA during the summer and was turned away.

While not going into specifics of Rossell's case, Tomah VA spokesman Matthew Gowan tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the medical center "does not turn away eligible veterans for care." The Tomah facility was dubbed "Candy Land" by some veterans for its prescribing practices.
