Clark County Health Task Force Insurance Seminars, Part 1

Monday, September 12th, 2016 -- 11:35 AM

-A task force in Clark County is working to get more residents enrolled in Health Insurance.

I spoke with Rebecca Rosandick, the Public Health Specialist/Health Educator of the Clark County Health Department, and she talked about the origins of the Clark County Health Task Force.

"We were approached late last year in 2015 and we were presented with a grant opportunity. We decided to take advantage of this grant opportunity and within that, it was identified that Clark County had a very high number, actually the highest number, or percent I should say, of uninsured individuals in the state."

"In Clark County, the percentage of the population under age 65 without health insurance is about 19%, which is significantly high. Of the 72 counties in Wisconsin, Clark continues to rank the worst. The state average of those under age 65 without medical insurance is about 7%. So, again, Clark County is at 19% and state average is only 7%."

"So, the Health Department decided to put a group together and we invited people from Memorial Medical Center, UW-Extension, Clark County Social Services, Ministry Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Family Health Center out of Marshfield and Workforce Resources. And, as a group, we decided, how are we going to increase this number of people that our insured in Clark County. So, we decided the best way to go about doing that is to hold community forums."

Coming up on Tuesday, we’ll hear why Clark County has such a high rate of insured people.
