Latest Figures From USDA Crop Production Report

The latest figures from the USDA crop production report show that contract production of snap beans and sweet corn for processing is forecast to be higher in Wisconsin when compared with the previous year.Due to a two percent increase in acreage, contracted snap bean production is will be about 340,680 tons, up from 329,530 tons last year. If realized, this will be the largest snap bean crop since 2009. Sweet corn for processing production is anticipated to total 517,041 tons, which is five percent higher from 2015.
Despite a record high yield, production of processing green peas is predicted to fall 17 percent to 67,116 tons due to a 6,100 acre drop in harvested acres. Nationally, contracted sweet corn production is forecast at 2.56 million tons, up seven percent from last year. Contracted snap bean production, at 748,280 tons, is predicted to increase one percent, while contracted production of processed green peas, at 314,880 tons, is expected to be down 23 percent from the previous year.
