Wisconsin Dairy Plants are Still Producing More Cheese Products on A Monthly Basis Than Last Year

Sunday, September 4th, 2016 -- 6:28 AM

The USDA reports that Wisconsin's dairy plants are still producing more cheese products on a monthly basis than they did a year earlier.

The agency's latest dairy product summary notes that Wisconsin produced 266.1 million pounds of cheese in July--which was up 1.1 percent from July 2015, and 1.5 percent more than this past June. This marks the 22nd consecutive month that monthly production exceeded year-to-year levels. Nationally, about 1.02 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States. That was 1.4 percent more than the same month last year, and 2.6 percent greater than the previous month's production totals.

Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 26.5 million pounds, which was down 4.3 percent from last year, but five percent more than last month. (Wisconsin Ag. Connection)
