Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $16.60 per hundredweight for their milk in July. According to the USDA's Agricultural Prices report, that was $1.80 higher than June's price, but $1.00 lower than year-ago levels. It is also the highest price received since December 2015.The U.S. milk price for July was $16.10 per cwt, 50 cents lower than Wisconsin's price, but $1.30 higher than the June payout. All of the 23 major milk producing states had an increase in price from June, with Oregon seeing the largest price increase of $2.10 cwt.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.68 per pound on August 31, while barrels were $1.62 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.08 per pound. For the week ending August 20, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.77 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.88 per pound.
