World's Largest Round Barn Turns 100

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The focal point of the Central Wisconsin State Fairgrounds in Marshfield has turned 100 years old this year.Local and state dignitaries held a re-dedication ceremony at the World's Largest Round Barn during the fair's opening day on Wednesday. The massive structure, which measures 70 feet tall and 150 feet in diameter, was built in 1916 at a cost of just $17,000. State Reps. Bob Kulp of Stratford, John Spiros from Marshfield, and Nancy VanderMeer of Tomah presented a citation on behalf of the State Legislature recognizing the historic significance of the building.
The barn has undergone many renovations in recent years and continues to be used for housing dairy cattle during the annual fair. The structure is listed in both the Wisconsin and National Register of Historical Places. The Central Wisconsin State Fair runs through Labor Day.
