(WDLB) -Congressman Sean Duffy’s November election opponent was in Marshfield yesterday.Democrat Mary Hoeft met with supporters at the democratic party head quarters downtown. She earned a spot on the November ballot by defeating Marathon County Board supervisor Joel Lewis in the August 9th primary election. Hoeft is a now-retired University of Wisconsin-Barron County communications arts professor. And concerns over college affordability got her into the race.
Hoeft has a plan that she says would put two years of education at the technical college or U-W Colleges levels under the public school system, and pay for it with higher taxes on the wealthiest one-percent.
Hoeft is from Rice Lake and also served two terms on the Rice Lake school board. She has the endorsement of former 7th district congressman Dave Obey. Duffy defeated real estate broker Don Raihala in the August primary, and is running for his fourth two-year term. He’s held the seat since winning the 2010 election.
