(Mike Warrens, WDLB) ??"The Marshfield school board gave final approval to the use of personal learning devices, and the rules for their use--both inside and outside the classroom.Board member Dorothy Chaney chairs the district's policy committee, and she said the I-pads at the elementary level would not be allowed to go home with students, but students at the middle school level would have that option. For families taking the device home, there is optional insurance that families can purchase for 30-dollars per year for one device, or 50-dollars for two devices. That covers one incident of damage at no charge, a second incident of damage with a 40-dollar deductible and a 100-dollar deductible if the device is lost.
The district is providing the use of the I-pads free of charge, except for replacement costs if the device is lost, stolen or damaged. Those costs total 400-dollars. And the board also approved a one-and-three-quarter-percent pay raise for certain administrative and district-level staff members, like principals, assistant principals, athletic director, and the directors of business services, buildings-and-grounds, technology, student services, teaching-and-learning, and food service. There are 20 affected positions, and those salaries will now total one-point-eight million dollars per year.
