Marshfield Common Council Votes No on Reducing Amount of Time Strays are Held

(WDLB) -Marshfield will not be reducing the amount of time stray dogs and cats are held until they're put up for adoption. The Common Council voted 6-to-3 last night in favor of reversing a recommendation made last week by the city's Finance-and-Budget Committee to reduce the stray-hold time from seven days down to four. City Administrator Steve Barg said the recommendation was made locally, after the state legislature gave municipalities the option to make the change.
The city has a contract with the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter, which gets paid seven-dollars a day per animal. "MAPS" President Karen Rau told the Council that the shelter has been up-and-running for less than a year, and she says her volunteers need some time to get their wits about them, before reducing the time they have to get the animals ready for adoption. In the last year, 15 dogs were held for four-to-seven days, and 150 cats were held for more than four days.
