Friday, July 29th, 2016 -- 8:04 AM
-A task force in Clark County is working to get more residents enrolled in Health Insurance. The Clark County Health Department received a grant to help increase the county’s enrollment numbers for health insurance. They partnered with several organizations including Memorial Medical Center, the Clark County UW-Extension Office and others to raise awareness on the high number of people in the county not enrolled in health insurance and to provide seminars and education to residents on why they should receive some kind of coverage. Together they created the Health Insurance Task Force.
19% of Clark County’s population isn’t covered by any form of health insurance. Wisconsin as a whole has 7% of the population not covered and the U.S. is at 11%. Another troubling statistic for Clark County is that 34% of children have no health insurance coverage, which is odd considering the state has CHIP or Child Health Insurance Program. Breaking the numbers down more, more men than women are not covered with health insurance and Hispanics and Blacks are less likely to be covered. The task force stressed the importance of coverage because it helps with cost if you are sick or injured and it will help you live a longer healthier life.
