Clark County's Health Insurance Task Force, Part 1

Thursday, July 28th, 2016 -- 8:02 AM

-A task force in Clark County is working to get more residents enrolled in Health Insurance.

The Clark County Health Department received a grant to help increase the county’s enrollment numbers for health insurance. They partnered with several organizations including Memorial Medical Center, the Clark County UW-Extension Office and others to raise awareness on the high number of people in the county not enrolled in health insurance and to provide seminars and education to residents on why they should receive some kind of coverage. Together they created the Health Insurance Task Force.

According to state figures, Clark County has the lowest rates of people enrolled in health insurance. In 2014, 19% of Clark County’s population under the age of 65 had no coverage of any kind. Clark County is the highest of all of Wisconsin’s 72 counties. They did admit that the county’s high Amish and Mennonite population skewed the numbers, but even with that population removed, Clark County was still sitting at 11%, which was considerably higher than our neighboring counties.
