Neillsville City Council Approves Holiday Lights on for Christmas Tour of Historic Homes

Thursday, July 28th, 2016 -- 8:01 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved turning on the holiday decorations the day after Thanksgiving.

During a Historic Preservation Commission meeting held on July 13th and a Beautification Committee meeting held on July 20th, the groups decided to ask the Common Council that the Christmas Decorations be lit for the Christmas Tour of Historic Homes being held on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The council approved, but one alderman did ask that they wait until that Friday to turn them on and not turn them on before Thanksgiving.

Some discussion also turned to the Neillsville Chamber’s Christmas tree lighting held at the beginning of December. They wondered if that would create some conflict by turning the lights on before that. However, it was stated that the lighting is its own thing and they will continue to do that at the beginning of December. This brought up more discussion about getting a new tree for Sniteman Town Square. The Director of Public Works stated that the tree that’s used for the lighting now is getting big and unruly, making it very difficult to decorate. They would like to take it down. The two committees have discussed getting a different kind of tree to use for future tree lightings and decorations, but it’s in the discussion phase.
