City of Marshfield Settles Dispute with Strip Club

(Mike Warren, WDLB) -The city of Marshfield is settling a dispute with a long-time strip club. City Administrator Steve Barg says the Rear End on the south edge of town will drop a lawsuit against the city, in exchange for 52-thousand dollars.The Rear End was challenging a long-standing city ordinance that bans nude dancing in places that serve alcohol. The strip club, formerly a part of the town of Cameron, became subjected to the law when it was added to the city last summer, under the terms of a boundary agreement dating back to the 1990's. The Rear End was challenging the provision, calling it unconstitutional.
The settlement money will come from an insurance company on behalf of the municipality, and so no city funds will be used. Had Marshfield lost the court challenge, city taxpayers might have wound up covering the Rear End's legal fees.
