President Obama Signs Jason Simcakoski Memorial Opioid Safety Act Into Law

(AP) -Legislation aimed to tackle the issue of overprescribing pain medications to veterans at the Tomah VA has cleared the final step.Friday afternoon President Obama signed the Jason Simcakoski Memorial Opioid Safety Act into law. Simcakoski was a Marine and Wisconsin native who died in 2014 from mixed drug toxicity under the care of doctors at the Tomah VA.
The bi-partisan measure signed by the president will strengthen opioid prescribing guidelines and create stronger oversight and accountability at v-a centers. Congressman Ron Kind, and Senators Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johnson were all involved in creating the bill.
