Madison Rising Playing at The Highground on Saturday, Part 1

-As a part of The Highground’s Operation Persian Gulf Welcome Home Veterans Event, the band Madison Rising will be playing after the dedication of the Persian Gulf Tribute at 5:30 on Saturday.Madison Rising is a patriotic rock band that’s on a mission to not only make great music, but also send a message that American Culture is alive and well. I spoke with Rio Hett, the lead singer of the band, and he gave some background on Madison Rising.
"Well, the band was formed in 2011. We've been around for 5 years now. The type of music is patriotic rock. We are bringing a message to a rock and roll audience that if you're a patriot and if you love the United States of America and everything it stands for, we just want to promote that. Now, as we move forward, are music has been pretty much in your face. If you listen to it, our lyrics, we're going to tell you what we're talking about and you're going to know it right off the bat."
Madison Rising does special shows for vets that have served or are serving today.
"Just last years the guys went over to Japan and South Korea to play for some of the marines over there. And then back home, we're currently on a tour right now with the Concerned Veterans of America. We're on the Defend Freedom Tour 2016. So we do a lot of stuff for the vets. We've done some shows locally for some wounded vets."
As a combat vet himself, Rio feels that his music does bring comfort to others that have served overseas.
"I can tell you that from a personal standpoint. I'm a combat vet. I've served 20 years in the United States Airforce. I've been diagnosed with PTSD and some of the lyrics really mean a lot."
