Black River Falls Fire Department Selected for 2015 Assistance to Firefighters Grant

-The Black River Falls Fire Department was selected to receive funding through the 2015 Assistance to Firefighters Grant.The department was notified by the office of Congressman Ron Kind and the United States Fire Administration. The department requested funds under the Operations and Firefighter Safety “Equipment” section of the AFG to purchase 24 new self-contained breathing apparatus. Replacing the old units will increase the safety and technology that the department relies on to protect firefighters in toxic atmospheres and super-heated environments.
The Black River Falls Fire Department feels the units are arguably one of the most important pieces of protective equipment that a firefighter will use to protect them while in hazardous environments, fighting a fire or affecting a rescue. The 95/5 grant award total is $144,700. The federal share is $137,810 with the local 5% share being $6,890.
