Wisconsin Cranberry Production Down Last Year

Wisconsin cranberry production totaled 4.86 million barrels in 2015, down from 5.02 million barrels the year prior, according to the USDA's Noncitrus Fruits and Nuts Summary.

The state's cranberry growers harvested 20,200 acres, down 500 acres from the last year. Average yield per acre, at 237 barrels, was down from last year's 240 barrels. However, the price of cranberries rose from $27.90 per barrel in 2014 to $30.50 per barrel in 2015. As a result, the total value of utilized production increased to $146 million dollars.

Wisconsin did maintain its number one ranking in total cranberry production with 57 percent of the nation's total. The state's total production was more than twice that of Massachusetts, which is the next highest producing state
