Teen Sentenced for Stabbing Incident Near Neillsville

Friday, July 1st, 2016 -- 12:11 PM

-An 18-year-old involved in a stabbing incident near Neillsville has been sentenced for the incident.

Back in April of 2015, 18-year-old Mathew Gebhardt, who was 17 at the time, stabbed a 27-year-old who stopped by a home, with Gebhardt's sister, on State Highway 95 in the Town of Levis where Gebhardt was at the time. This all began as a bizarre drinking agreement between Gebhardt and his sister, which escalated when Gebhardt’s girlfriend and his sister’s boyfriend got involved. The boyfriend was stabbed in the neck when he tried to pull Gebhardt away from a fight between the two women.

Back in November, Gebhardt was found guilty, due to a no contest plea, of 2nd degree intentional homicide. He was scheduled for sentencing January, but instead, he told the judge that he wanted a new attorney. However, he was willing to continue with his plea. Gebhardt was set for sentencing in May, but his attorney requested more time for an additional pre-sentencing investigation to be completed. Finally, today, Gebhardt was sentenced to 9 years in prison and 6 years of extended supervision.
