The Semiannual meeting of the Clark County Historical Society will be held on Saturday, June 4th.The 1897 Clark County Jail Museum will host the meeting and a potluck lunch will be followed by a presentation by Dr. Lucretia Crawford, a faculty member in the English and Honors programs at Lakeland College in Sheboygan. Focusing on Clark County’s one-room, one-teacher rural schools, Dr. Crawford will provide a geographic and social overview of rural school life from the 1860s to the 1960s. She will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this form of education prior to the disappearance of such schools due to the consolidation movement prior to 1970.
The public is welcome to attend this public meeting and will be encouraged to share information and knowledge of the old rural schools. After some brief organizational business, officers and representatives of local historical groups will report on their activities and plans for the summer season.
