Clark County Committees Hear Update on Emergency Communications Project, Part 3

-The Clark County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Committee and Finance Committee heard an update on the county’s multi-million dollar communication system upgrade project.The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved the $4.6 million dollar project back in 2014 and the county is being assisted in the project by PSC Alliance. After hearing about the proposed tower sites, the representatives from PSC answered some questions those in attendance had at that point. One questionss was in regards to just building towers. A county board member said he believed there were rules in place that wouldn’t allow people to just build a tower because the state didn’t want towers popping up all over the place. The representatives said that was true at one time, but that’s been changed by the state recently.
The same board member also felt like there were too many loose ends due to the levels of completeness with the tower sites. The representatives, again, pointed out how tricky acquiring tower sites are as private companies can be difficult when it comes to getting on their towers. They said that if they sign into a lease with a tower before they do a structural analysis to make sure it can hold their equipment and find out it doesn’t, then they’re stuck with the lease. If they reverse it, they end up spending money for a structural analysis only to find the tower won’t work.
