Compliance Maintenance Annual Report at Neillsville City Council Meeting
Friday, May 27th, 2016 -- 8:21 AM
-The Neillsville City Council heard the Compliance Maintenance Annual Report at their meeting on Tuesday. The report was presented, and approved, during the Public Works portion of the meeting. Last year, the city’s waste water plant exceeded their influent capacity by 90% 4 times. This caused them to receive a grade of B from the DNR. They also exceeded their capacity by 100% twice. The cause was heavy rains overwhelming the system. There were times when the plant’s effluent amounts exceeded the appropriate levels as well. One odd occurrence also occurred in March when they had some toxic flows come through the plant. They’re not sure what caused it, but they believe it may have been the hotel or school emptying their pool.
There was also an incident in May when the UV light was shut off even though the system said it was on. Also, the plant did exceed their phosphorous levels in July and there were some backups in the city due to blockage in some pipes. In the end, the city did receive grades of A’s and B’s for the plant and the report stated it was in good shape and is run well. There is some maintenance needed, but they’re waiting until the plant is paid off to do those projects. After the report was approved in Public Works, it was brought forward and approved during the regular Common Council meeting.
