-A Marshfield man charged in Marathon County for using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime was sentenced in Marathon County Court on Wednesday. In 2015, Jason Scheel's arrest was the result of an online sex sting started by the Brown County Sheriff's Department. Scheel was one of over 20 men arrested in the incident. The purpose of the three day sting was to target child predators. Members of the Brown County Sheriff's Department posed as children on Craigslist and sent advertisements to counties throughout the state. If someone wanted to meet up, that county's department would make an arrest.
Scheel pleaded guilty to the charge of child enticement, sexual contact back in January of this year. He was sentenced to 6 months in jail and 8 years’ probation. He must also register as a sex offender and go through sex offender treatment.
