Clark County Committees Hear Update on Emergency Communications Project, Part 1
Wednesday, May 25th, 2016 -- 9:25 AM
-The Clark County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Committee and Finance Committee heard an update on the county’s multi-million dollar communication system upgrade project. The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved the $4.6 million dollar project back in 2014 and since then, the first phase of the project has been completed and they’re moving on with the 2nd phase. The resolution stated that the LEC Committee would move forward with building the 4-channel Analog System, not to exceed that initial price tag. They’ve held several meetings with the various committees and met/spoke with/e-mailed people about tower sites and more. They also met with legislative leaders to see if there is any help the state can provide with the project.
So far, 911 answering equipment was installed in March and training took place in April with a cut over the following week. John Ross, Clark County’s Emergency Management Director, also met with city officials in Greenwood about building a tower on land they own near their Waste Water Treatment Facility. So far, Greenwood seems very receptive to allow the county to build the tower. They’ve also been speaking to the City of Loyal about zoning in regards to that same tower as its shared space. That tower is an important one as it will be the hub when it comes to connecting all of Clark County. At this point, the county is continuing to look at the proposed tower sites and get agreements in place in order to begin the process of continuing to upgrade the system.
