(Jonathan Anderson, USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin) -Two Clark County sheriff’s deputies are on leave following a USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin report that revealed a part-time deputy was accused of rape in a previous job and that his former boss said he shouldn’t be hired.Clark County Sheriff Greg Herrick has ordered the two deputies on mandatory paid administrative leave as part of a probe into possible sheriff’s office policy violations stemming from the hiring of Reserve Deputy Lee Lech, according to a press release Herrick issued Monday. Herrick did not respond to questions seeking the identities of the deputies who had been put on administrative leave. Herrick also said in the press release that his office would "cooperate and work in conjunction with any outside third party investigations." He did not elaborate as to what, if any, outside investigations had been launched.
USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin first reported Friday that Clark County officials hired Lech despite being told he was accused of violently raping a female public employee during his former job at the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. The woman alleged the assault occurred in a hotel room while the two were attending a 2011 training seminar in Milwaukee. Lech has not been criminally charged in connection with the rape accusations. The alleged victim told investigators that she did not want to move forward with a complaint, and Hartman said Oneida County lacked authority to pursue a criminal case because the assault reportedly happened in a different county.
