Clark County Hosts SIMCOM 2016, Part 1

-Clark County was the host for SIMCOM 2016 at the Clark County Fairgrounds on Wednesday and Thursday.SIMCOM’s, or State Interoperable Mobile Communications Exercise, purpose is to bring multiple communications platforms together to make sure they can communicate with one another in an emergency situation. Multiple organizations came together to make the operation a success including the Wisconsin National Guard, Clark County Emergency Management, Wisconsin Emergency Management, Sheriff’s Departments from multiple counties, amateur radio operators from multiple counties and more. During the media visit on Thursday, they had 138 people there at that time.
The event is typically held in Wisconsin’s southern counties, but during the SIMCOM event in 2015, John Ross, Clark County’s Emergency Management Director, and other began talking bout bring the event to Clark County as they were looking to bring it to the Central Wisconsin region. John saw Clark County hosting it as an opportunity and a way to build relationships with other outlets. The event is held once a year and Wisconsin is one of the only states that holds the SIMCOM event every year.
