Clark County Eat Right, Be Fit Coalition Continues to Move Forward to Help County Residents Live Healthier

-The Clark County Eat Right, Be Fit Coalition is continuing to identify county assets in order to help county residents live a healthier and more active life. The coalition was founded back in 2003 after a nutritional assessment was conducted. They were very concerned with the high rate of obesity in the county and the lack of physical activity. They’ve already completed several items to help citizens live a more active life and eat better. They’ve partnered with local farmers’ markets to provide residents with better access to fruits and veggies. They’ve increased the outreach on the positive aspects of breastfeeding and have seen an increase in the number of mothers’ breastfeeding in the county. They’ve also identified opportunities for people to be more physically active by making people aware of walking trails, school gyms and more.
The coalition is now moving forward by identifying people to bring to the table in order to help raise awareness and educate people on the growing obesity rates and ways to eat healthy and be more physically active. At their meeting on Thursday, they looked at different groups, including education, media, volunteer organizations and more, and who could be a part of this initiative. From there, they will decide on different projects they can do to help people live healthier.
