Neillsville City Council Hears Report on Memorial Medical Center's Financials

-The Neillsville City Council approved a couple items at their meeting on Tuesday.The board approved some part-time employees that were discussed at a Personnel Committee Meeting held before the Regular Common Council Meeting on Tuesday. They also approved closing West 7th, West 6th and West Streets and the lower city parking lot for the Antique Car and Bike Show being held Saturday, July 16th by the Motorhead Mafia Car Club.
They also heard a presentation from Memorial Medical Center on their financials. Audited financials proved to be slightly better than anticipated for 2015 including a 1% positive margin compared to industry average of 1.3% and 2.2% in the last years. $16 million in salary and benefits were paid to 256 employees during 2015 and days of cash on hand increased from 11 to 44 days. They also stated the 1st quarter continued to be strong in 2016 with breakeven results when the normal is to lose money and the hospital is strategically working on bringing more specialty care local, increasing relationships with local businesses and installing a new electronic medical record in 2016.
They council also heard a Heritage Days Committee Report from April 28th. The committee heard an update on the Miss Neillsville Program and they discussed the Family Movie Night. The film PAN was selected. They also discussed security for Friday and Saturday night. Finally, they discussed a coloring contest, golf carts, the parade and a “Chalk Walk” before the parade in downtown Neillsville.
