Xcel Energy Switching Streetlights to LED Lights in Neillsville and Other Local Communities

-Xcel Energy is among the first Wisconsin utilities to bring the economic, environmental and aesthetic benefits of LED streetlights to its communities.Beginning the week of May 23, Xcel Energy and contract crews will begin replacing 1,850 streetlights in Abbotsford, Neillsville and surrounding communities. Xcel Energy’s massive multi-year project to upgrade nearly 300,000 company-owned, cobra-head style streetlights from high pressure sodium vapor to light-emitting diode began last October in Wisconsin. Since that time, approximately 80 Wisconsin communities now have energy-efficient LED fixtures. There is no cost to communities for the streetlight replacements.
LED streetlights use 40-60 percent less electricity than HPSV streetlights and have a longer life which means fewer replacements and less maintenance. They also cast a crisper, white light compared to HPSV streetlights.
