(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The temporary closing of a pipeline that runs from Milwaukee to Green Bay has prompted Gov. Scott Walker to declare an energy emergency in Wisconsin. As part of Executive Order 197, drivers of petroleum products are being exempt from federal and state weekly hours-of-service restrictions, such as the number of hours those motorists can drive without taking breaks and time off. The governor says the move will give truck drivers flexibility to alleviate potential supply shortages caused by the temporary shutdown of the line.
Use of the West Shore Pipeline was halted because of an anomaly detected during a recent inspection. Walker's office says the shutdown may trigger widespread terminal outages and shortages of petroleum products in various areas of the state.
