(AP) -An increasing number of University of Wisconsin-Madison students are demanding the administration make changes at a time college students nationwide have expressed growing frustration with discrimination and racism on predominantly white campuses.A series of racially charged incidents have fueled the pressure for change at UW, including photos of swastikas posted on a dorm room door, stereotypical war cry sounds shouted at a Ho-Chunk elder and graffiti using other Nazi symbols.
For many students of color, though, it's the smaller everyday instances that drive their frustration on a campus that is about 70 percent white. Administrators have agreed to some student demands, including adding hours for student support and conducting cultural competency training for administrators and incoming students. But activists say the response is inadequate and are pushing for follow-through on the administration's promises.
