College Math And Reading Scores Released

Saturday, April 30th, 2016 -- 7:31 AM

Only about a third of the nation's high school seniors are prepared for the academic challenges of entry-level college math and reading courses.

The latest scores from the Nation's Report Card show that 12th-graders have slipped in math and that reading scores have not changed. One-quarter of the 12th-graders performed at the proficient or advanced level in math. About 37 percent were proficient or better in reading.

Last year's average math score was a point lower than in 2013, the first drop in a decade. For reading, scores were flat compared to 2013 -- but down five points from the early 90s when the test was first given to students. The National Assessment of Educational Progress is given to seniors at public and private schools
