Neillsville Students Get Ready for Summer School, Final
Thursday, April 28th, 2016 -- 1:00 PM
-Students at the Neillsville School District will soon have Summer School to look forward to again.I spoke with John Gaier, Neillsville’s District Administrator, and he stated that students can receive a lot of benefits for attending Summer School.
"I know our Kindergarten readiness program is excellent for our youngest kids to get to school, learn, kind of, what goes on here, learn where the rooms are, learn faces of kids that might be in their classes and the teachers that might be serving them in the fall. Academic support classes for kids that may need some extra help in reading or mathematics. We also have courses where if kids are behind in credits in the high school; they can pick up some credits during the summer. But also, some exposure to things that kids maybe don't get in the regular curriculum. Things like theater and music courses beyond what we'd normally do. And, also, we have activities like swim lessons, things like that, that can support kids in their healthy activities. So, just a boat load of things, I think, are real beneficial to kids."
Summer School also offers all students an opportunity for breakfast and lunch even if they’re not in Summer School. Mr. Gaier explained.
"Yes, we do. In fact, we offer both breakfast and lunch for our summer school kids. And, actually, the breakfast and lunch is open to anybody from birth to age 18 and there is no cost for the lunches for any of those kids in that age category. So, kids, whether they are in summer school or not, are free to come up and have breakfast and lunch here at the school."
Mr. Gaier recommended that parents and grandparents pick up a flyer and see the types of programs they have to offer and encourages them to enroll their kids in Neillsville’s Summer School Program.
