Neillsville City Council Approves the Purchase of a New Rescue Truck

Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 -- 8:23 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved the purchase of a new rescue truck at their meeting on Tuesday.

The purchase of the truck was first discussed at a Finance Committee Meeting held on April 19th. The firemen present at that meeting put on a presentation suggesting two types of vehicles as the current truck is old and no longer meets the needs of the department. The firemen recommended the purchase of the 2017 International 7400 Chassis Rescue Truck with a 350hp engine, Alison automatic transmission, two wheel drive and a NFPA 1901 compliant unit at a cost of $269,158. They selected this one because it’s $80,000 less than the other unit.

The unit comes with tool boards, extrication equipment and more. It also has room for additional equipment and has a 30 year life expectancy. There would be some additional cost for the purchase of other items needed for the truck including an air compressor hose, radios and more. The new truck will be built in South Dakota and should take 11 months. Firemen from Neillsville will go out there while the truck is being built to review the progress of the build.

The city has a total of $200,720 available for this vehicle plus they have a pledge of $100,000 for 4 years from the Listeman Foundation. A down payment is needed when the Chassis is done and the rest when the truck is completed. They have enough cash on hand for the down payment and by the time the final payment is due, they’ll be very close to having the funds needed. In the end, the Finance Committee approved the purchase of the truck with a cost not to exceed $300,000 plus travel expenses for the firemen who will be going out to South Dakota to check on the progress of the build. It was then approved by the Common Council on Tuesday.
